With a population of 272 million souls, Indonesia is the most populous Muslim nation on earth. Christians account for just 10% of the population altogether, with Catholics at just 3%. Nonetheless, the Church has good grounds for hope and joy, for there are many vocations to the religious life in this Southeast Asian nation.

Typical of this religious dynamism are the Daughters of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary, a home-grown congregation, founded in 1958 in Larantuka, on the island of Flores. Every year around 20 young women join the congregation.

The Daughters have an important role to play since as Indonesian women themselves they can do a great deal to promote greater respect for women in Indonesian society. Violence against women is a serious problem in Indonesia. By working with families and young people – including boys and young men – they are helping to create greater awareness and respect for the dignity of women and girls.

Indispensable for the religious life is a sound and solid spiritual formation, above all in a country where Christians are a minority and where it is therefore especially important for the sisters to be firmly rooted in their own Catholic identity. As a local, home-grown congregation, however, the Daughters of Our Lady, Queen of the Holy Rosary have only very limited resources at their disposal. And so we would like to support the formation of their 53 young novices with a contribution of €11,000. Will you help us?
